Kettle's Back yard

KETTLE'S BACK YARD AND STUDIO

There is a famous art gallery which is part of the University of Cambridge UK called 'Kettle's Yard' which is a real favourite of mine. It was founded by H. S. 'Jim' Ede 50 years ago and has an incredible permanent collection of art. The whole house is visually exciting but has a great sense of peace. There are paintings everywhere, even the bathroom and lavatory. Beautiful art objects are displayed in all rooms.

As my family name is Kettle and I thought it appropriate to name my studio 'Kettle's Back Yard'. So, those in the know would understand the pun of the name for my small studio in Middleton by Youlgrave.

The studio is part of my 17th century limestone cottage. Originally it was the village shop so it has an old shop window facing  into the village square.

Situated in the White Peak area of the Peak District National  Park, just a few miles from Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Bradford Dale joins up with Lathkill Dale at Alport just two miles downstream. Arbor Low, an ancient burial ground is within the parish boundaries. Harthill Stones and Robin Hood's Stride are nearby.

An outdoor sculpture project was instigated for the millennium. The Sites of Meaning project has installed marker stones and sculptures around the parish boundaries of Middleton.
